John 2:1-11 “And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.”

Text John 2:5 “His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.”

Within John 2:1-11, we have the miracle of Jesus turning the water into wine. We have the story of Jesus moving in behalf of a young couple on one of the most important days in their lives; their wedding day. What could have been a day of shame became a day of splendor, all because of Jesus and the work of some servants. Water was turned into the best wine because these servants surrendered their will to do His will. Note at least two areas of surrender! The servant surrendered to His word; “Whatsoever he saith . . . do it.” Most, if not all of our needs could be met if we were willing to simply surrender in obedience to His Spoken Word, the Word of God! Earlier John tells us who was speaking to the servants; “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). The Living Word was delivering the Spoken Word and all the servants needed do was to surrender to His word. The second thing is they surrendered to His way, “Whatsoever he saith.” One thing that the servants would discover is that “my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord” (Isaiah 55:8). The word “whatsoever” comes from two Greek words that when put together mean, that which may be supposition or uncertain. The command of Jesus is going to defy human logic! There is nothing reasonable about putting water in a pot, pouring it out in glasses and serving it to the Governor of the feast with the expectation that it will turn to wine, yet it does! Will you surrender your will to His Word and His way so that He can work a miracle in your life?
