Matthew 5:13-16 “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Text II Corinthians 5:20 “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ”
As a Christian, you have been given a word to proclaim and a work to perform (see II Cor.5:18-19); you are Christ’s ambassador! As His representative you are “the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world.” To fail in one’s responsibility is due to the lack of activity and not the lack of ability. Jesus said “Ye are.” The word “are” is a verb meaning I exist and is only used when emphatic. As a new creation in Christ, you exist as “the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world.” This is what you became when God saved you! God has equipped you with everything you need to be an effective witness for Him! The effective witness of light is marked by clarity. Light ceases to be effective when it is hid, obstructed or distorted. The question is, “Have you openly taken a stand for the Lord Jesus Christ so others may see and believe?” The effective witness of salt is marked by contact. Unlike light that is effective from a distance, salt requires contact to be effective. By the means of contact, salt flavors and preserves the object it hopes to help. Having been drawn to the city by the light; the sojourner was helped by interaction with its citizens. As an effective witness, men not only see God in your life, but they experiences God through contact with your life! The light proclaims the word and the salt performs the work. Use what God has given you!
