The Right Word

Mark 13:11 “But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.”

Proverbs 25:11 “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.”

One does not have to be advanced in years to know the value of the right word! In those perplexing times of life each of us have either been helped or hurt by something as simple as a spoken word. The right word encompasses the entire spectrum of life; from combat, “when they shall . . . deliver you up”, to consolation, “A word fitly spoken.” The question that must concern us is; “When the time comes, will I have the right word?” The right word will be determined by diet; “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh” (Matthew 12:34). Your inflow determines your outflow! That’s the reason Paul said, “whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Philippians 4:8). The right word is determined by direction, “whatsoever shall be given you . . .  for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.” You tongue is either under the direction of the flesh or the Spirit; it can destroy or deliver! The right word will be upon your lips when the right things are in your heart and control has been relinquished to the Holy Spirit.
